Mixed media canvas - Fun Times

Hi fellow crafters

It's a gorgeous wind free day in Cape Town. Summer is certainly on its way.

This week I spent 2 days working on 10 mixed media canvasses with a client. I'll load those pics tomorrow. Today's canvas was a gift for my daughters SIL....I love working on these cause each one comes out so differently....

I always tend to start my background with torn scrapbooking paper which is applied with podge. When that dries I add some texture paste through a stencil . On this one I also used some diluted gesso over the entire base to tone the colours down. When that was dry I added some distress inks in reds and Browns for random colour

This is a close up of the flowers I added. I sprayed some perfect pearls mist over selected areas on the canvas to hilite them

I also added lots of rub ons.

This is a gift I received from someone ages ago. I stamped the wording, cut it out with my circle Nestibility and glued it into the centre. Added some glossy accents over the top to create a dome.

And here is the finished piece. The wording was from a ready cut and glittered alphabet set I received ages ago. Somehow it was just the right colour for this piece.

That's it for today, hope you are all enjoying a fabulous Sunday.

As always........Remember to

Best friends LOTV easel birthday card

Hello crafting friends

I just finished this card for my friends birthday today....hand delivering cause our postal workers have been on strike....and there is absolutely no mail going anywhere .....such a tragic state of affairs...as Cardmakers we often share our work with fellow card makers around the country...and things are at a complete standstill. I am hoping that it comes to an end soon...

This is a close up of the sentiment. I cut 2 Sizzix dies joined them and layered the Rose paper on top of it...edged the sentiment with ( I think ) peacock distress ink and placed it on top of the rose paper. Added 2 leaf dies on other side with 3 roses in the centre.

A close up of the image...I love this image to 2 friends sharing a 'cuppa' the pink bag, clasp on green bag and hat are highlighted with some glossy accents and glitter.

The finished card....hope you like.... 😉

Until next time.... Remember to ........

Onesie baby mini album

Hello, hello, hello

I hope everyone had a fabulous WCMD....I had a fantastic time with my crafting friends....wish we could do it more than once a year!

Yesterday we had a marathon 5 hour scrapbook class making this onesie album. Michelle and I had to call it a day so she went home to add extra finishing touches, but it came out a treat with lots of flaps and pockets for journalling cards and photos.

This is the cover. It has a photo  mat in the pocket for baby's first photo.
The bling still needs to go into the centre of the flowers.

Page 2 and 3. Princess tag flaps open to the left revealing an information card for date of birth, weight, etc.
The heart page flaps open to the right and also features a pocket on top of it for additional photo mats
That's the flap open..ready for photos to be added
Left page has a belly band for a yellow and lilac photo mat and an additional pocket for the small photo mat which has a teddy bear on the front. Yellow  page is plain.
Another two pages with just paper and embellishments, no additional pockets just some adorable tiny buttons on the top.
Princess page has a pocket for photo mats and the scalloped circle is only taped 3/4 way that holds a booklet and 2 tags. Purple page has a pocket for tags and photo mats.
Booklet outside of the pocket.
This project is fabulous because you get to use up every bit of paper..no waste...lol...more pockets and photo mats. The pocket on the pink onesie also flaps open for more photo space.
The pink floral flap has 2 inner flaps as well so it can hold up to 7 photos. Purple page is just decorated - photos can be added here.

The carriage is also a flap to the left

Both pages have pockets with two booklets for more picture storage or journalling.
These pockets can actually hold more photo mats.

Both floral pages flip up revealing extra pockets for storage and a photo below.
Flaps down, with also a small pocket on the front for small tags or passport sized photos.

And that's it....

Hope you have a wonderful crafting weekend...

LOTV 50th Birthday card

Hello one and all

So, last week I had time to play with my alcohol pens. I have a mixture is Spectrum Noir and ProMarkers. I think I like the grip and the tips of the ProMarkers best.  Maybe it's because I had the ProMarkers first, I'm not sure, but they just seem to be more liquidy......than the Spectrum Noir pens I have....dunno would love to have feedback from other alcohol marker uses since I am very much a Novice.

Anyway...here we go, my card for my daughters sister in laws mum who turned 50....

So the sentiment is a free digi I picked up somewhere...I think it was  Desert Diva, I imported it into my Craft Artist software and added the 50. It's printed onto curious metal ice white and layered onto eyelet Spellbinders Nestibility.

This is a close up of the LOTV image. I have the distressed doily die from Tim Holtz in the background.

Some stickles on the roses in the image and butterfly to finish .

That's it for now...have a Super Sunday!

And Remember to...........

LOTV Baby Girl Card

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it...I am back...lol.... Seems I've found a few minutes to load a new card I made this morning for our neighbors daughter who has just had a baby girl after two sons.... She must be so happy.

Anyway...had this image courtesy of HRH Amanda Harrod......and colored it with my ProMarkers....bears are HARD to color people!....

Anyway..this is my attempt...

I added some glossy accents to the centre of the scale....it's still busy drying.....yeah...I am impatient... ;-)

Added a pop of yellow to brighten up the card and some green ribbon to blend in with the green leaf scroll.

Cut the image with my circle Nestibility and the pink layer with my scallop Nestibility. The yellow die cut is also a spellbinders border die. Sorry have no idea where the DP is from....it was from my off cut drawer....I am a hoarder of note....it's just so hard to throw away good paper....;-) I know you all understand  >vbg<

Hope you like my attempt!

As always....wishing you a stampendous day and............

Happy Birthday to a 90 year old

Hi everyone....

I know it's been a while since my last post...I have been busy, but there's just been no time to blog about it... I don't know where the time goes...

I belong to an on line group and one of the ladies in America has a mum who is turning 90. She was hoping to surprise her mum with tons of cards from all over the world for her birthday. Now how can one resist!

This is what I came up with

It's an easel card with a LOTV image coloured in a mix of ProMarkers and Spectrum Noir pens.

I added glossy accents and glitter to the 'icing' and just plain glossy accents to the wings.

I know the colouring is not great, but we are on a major learning curve - happens in spurts when I have time...problem is.....when I finally get back to it again, I've forgotten what I had learned before...lol...

That's it for now.....hope to be back soon

Don't forget to...........

Live,love,laugh mixed media frame

Hi everyone

Happy to be back with a mixed media frame I finished today.

This is actually an inexpensive A4 frame. My son broke the front glass and I was wondering how to use it so as not to waste the frame.

I decided to give the hard board a coat of Gesso (Claudine Hellmouth) and work from there.

I painted it twice with gesso and added some tissue paper, bits of Tim Holtz Tissue paper and also some music gold embossed vellum which I found in my stash. I used multi Matt medium to apply the whole lot in layers and sprayed it with Adirondack sprays in (the only colors I have: red pepper, stream, denim and sunset orange)

I let it rest for a day or at least half a day cause at this stage I though oh crap....it just looks like a huge mess!

I returned to stamp the heart and quote onto tissue paper with Archival ink in Jet black and layered it onto my base. Stamped a few of my stampers anonymous stamps directly onto the canvas with black archival ink.

Cut out my letters in chipboard with Tim Holtz Alterations die and painted it with gold metallic paint. When this was dry I used the black adirondack paint and lightly just added some color. When this was dry I added glossy accents crackle medium and left overnight to dry. Final layer on here was some metallic paste to fill the cracks.

On the bottom right hand side I added some texture with moulding paste through my new Tim Holtz stencil we got at the convention earlier this year as well as just next to the word live. Once dry I added some dark color with distress ink pads in black soot and brushed corduroy - brown.

I added some distress stickles with glossy accents to my stamped heart and to the heart die cut. I used bronze glitter from my stash for the crown and wings. The umbrella man is also cut out of chipboard and painted first with black, then gold and finally a smidge of silver adirondack paints. (Allow time to dry in between).

I added some distress stickles to the man and black glitter glue from Hampton art to the umbrella.

Finally I typed the words : with promise, with passionate and with pleasure on my computer and distressed the edges with Victorian velvet and brushed corduroy distress ink and added it with multi matte medium from Ranger to my project.

Stuck all the words and die cuts with my all time favourite glue glossy accents!

And that's it.

Hope you enjoyed this project.

Have a fabulous weekend and remember to make time to.....

Farewell card

Hi everyone

It's cold, windy and was storming yesterday...winter has finally set in here in CapeTown.

I was asked to make a farewell card for a work colleague leaving the office for better prospects... The request was for a funky card...well...I am not sure if this is funky, but here is my interpretation...lol..

Close up on the flowers, I printed both sentiments from my craft artist programme digitally. The image is from Penny Black.

Coloured with Faber Castell water color pencil crayons

And my completed card........added some rhinestones to the centre of some of the circles on background paper.

Thanks for stopping by.....

Keep warm and remember to.........

Mojo Monday 346

Hi everyone!

I needed a thank you card for my neighbor who had been very accommodating during a renovation we recently had. This card is long overdue so I decided to use this weeks Mojo Monday's sketch for her card.

These are all bits of paper leftovers from previous projects and admittedly it came together quite quickly.....thank heavens...lol...the Krafty Fairy is shining her light on me...

Here is this weeks sketch

And this is my contribution

I used brads on the banners and flower eyelets on the left top corner

Circles were cut with my Big Shot and Spellbinders Dies and the sentiment is an oldie but goodie from Hero Arts.

And finally my completed card.

Have a Krafting good weekend .....Remember to..........Keep it Krafty.

Make your own background paper

Hello stampers and scrappers

Last week I made a card to participate in The Outlawz CAS challenge, card was made, but I didn't have time to load it ....

Thea idea was to create your own background paper...this is what I came up with:

I used water color pencil crayons to colour the butterflies as well as the soft blue background.

This side view shows the single butterfly I cut out and added as a 3D embellishment.

I sprayed the white card with perfect pearl spray ( a mistake I thought after the fact) but it was done
:-( - live and learn lol.

The quote i found on line and printed it out with my color printer.

That's it for the moment....hope you all have a great weekend coming...and that you'll have some time to......

                         Keep it Krafty.....

Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 - 13

Hello fellow stampers

Today I came across my friend Lynn's post about her submission to the Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 challenge and was inspired to try my hand at it.

This is the sketch found here

And here is my take on it
I coloured my butterfly with Faber Castell aquarelle watercolor pencils.

I embossed the side panel with one of my sizzix embossing folders to match the background paper. The paper was a freebie I downloaded and unfortunately cannot remember where it's from.

Here is my completed card . Hope it meets all the requirements.

Have a stampendous day!

And remember to.......

                    Keep it Krafty..........
